A research paper co-authored with Martin-Disley published in a special edition of Human-Computer Interaction, focusing on Generative AI and Tools for Thought. Building upon Peter Gardenfor's theory of conceptual spaces and the problem of cognitive fixation, we introduce concept suppression as a subtractive approach to induce cognitive friction into human-AI interaction, treating the learned conceptual manifold of a pre-trained model as a design surface for stage-fit interaction models. We evaluate the approach in a within-subject study (N=37) where participants were set a conceptual ideation challenge.
